Paperless society?

January 27, 2004

The push towards the paperless office is strong, the push for paperless classrooms is strong, and the push for paperless life is weak.

However, the office and the classroom are nowhere near paperless. In the office environment, there are still things that must be done on paper, financial statements, annual reports, contracts, and the like. Also, having a hard copy of a report or letter, or other important type of paper is important, because what if the computers go down? Or what if the file gets deleted? In the classroom environment, professors are putting their material online for the students to retrieve and print out. Students turn work in in hard copy, paper form.

Are we really in a paperless society?

Far from it. We've just reduced the amount of paper used, or diverted the costs of printing to the end-user, instead of the supplier.

rain rain rain rain and yes… rain

January 25, 2004

It has rained for the past 24 hours……….

O_O

Earlier today we didn't have sidewalks.. we had running creeks, we didn't have roads, we had rivers, and we didn't have stairs, we had cascading waterfalls..

Pretty to look at, but a hassle to walk through.

Get yours today!

quiz thingy or whatever it is

January 23, 2004

The rules are: Bold the states you've been to, underline the states you've lived in and italicize the state you're in now, add countries you've been to at the end.

Alabama / Alaska / Arizona / Arkansas / California / Colorado / Connecticut / Delaware / Florida / Georgia / Hawaii / Idaho / Illinois / Indiana / Iowa / Kansas / Kentucky / Louisiana / Maine / Maryland / Massachusetts / Michigan / Minnesota / Mississippi / Missouri/ Montana / Nebraska / Nevada / New Hampshire / New Jersey / New Mexico / New York / North Carolina / North Dakota / Ohio / Oklahoma / Oregon / Pennsylvania / Rhode Island / South Carolina / South Dakota / Tennessee / Texas / Utah / Vermont / Virginia / Washington / West Virginia / Wisconsin / Wyoming / Washington D.C.

Canada

****

Washington D.C. is a territory of the U.S. So is Puerto Rico.. so where's Puerto Rico?!

I've been on 3 week long 'visits' to some states.. specifically Mississippi and Michigan, thus why they're underlined. I lived in the same place (Michigan was my Grandma's.. Mississippi was a dorm) during that time period.

The other states I've been to, I counted them only if we stopped somewhere besides a rest area, or food, or similar short visit, non-interesting thing. I've been to Cedar Point, and we stayed the night or two, I can't remember, but we stayed overnight. Same with Tennassee.. I've been to Chattanooga, and we stayed overnight +some, and we were at Opryland in the late 80s. I've vistied Florida, after moving out… Junior year class trip we went to Orlando… heh.

The only place I've flown was from FL to GA to MI. I was in GA for 2 hours… Though I've also been there for Six Flags, and I'm going to finally spend the night in that state near the end of February.

I could keep going, but I need to go get dinner….. lol

🙂

dumb left ankle

January 22, 2004

A couple days ago I was walking and stepped in a hole.. No problem, it didn't hurt or anything (I've twisted my ankle before, so I know what it feels like to twist it.. note: watch out for rocks on pavement.)

anyways, for the past few days it hasn't really bothered me, until I start walking bac k to my room at the end of the day.. or something sometime like that… later in the day…

It started hurting some more today… it's not swollen.. just gets pulled really really easily now, apparently…

So now I've got my ankle compression thingy on… hoping to make it stop over stretching…. sigh…

It's been a few days over 2 years since I twisted this ankle…

sigh

pointless quizzes, part deux

You, my friend are a true individual. You most
likely hate trends and are creative. By seeing
things differently, people either admire you or
think you are a bit strange. I'm guessing you
are a lot like me. Perhaps a Good Charlotte
hater? I hope so. An inspiration to us all,
continue being you! (If you like GC, I'm sorry,
I am just expressing an opinion)

Ok… so it's only one quiz….

yay.

Lion King Reviews… and my comments

January 18, 2004

I found this… not really amusing in the least.. but… amusing…

***************

Not for young children. Promos mask its real darkness.
The advertisements for this film that you see on other DVDs and videos are purposely and horribly misleading. You buy this video expecting a joyous musical romp with animals of the Serengeti for your children. Plain and simple this is a movie of death. The lead character dies a horrible death and there are fights to the death. This is not a children's movie. See the first “Editors” comments. Compared to NEMO, artistically the animation is simply not that great. The background scenes are repetitious. Disk 2 is basically an advertisement for the musical. My youngsters never get tired the the original Disney Jungle Book. We've seen it hundreds of times. We viewed this movie once and that was enough.
RATING: 2 stars (out of possible 5 stars)

*****************

OK…………

#1) Had you not heard about the movie before you bought the Platinum Edition of The Lion King (which this was a review for)?

#2) NEMO is 3D…. TLK is 2D… GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL!!

#3) If you'd watched the REST of the behind the scenes stuff, you'd see there's more to the story than just a happy-go-lucky film. The lead lion (not the one you refered to) has to deal with life.. I assume you've never had to deal with a death in the family? Not even a dog or a cat or any other animal that people keep as pets.

#4) Oh, by the way.. the lead character is Simba.. NOT MUFASA. Mufasa dies at the beginning. The story centers around Mufasa's son, Simba.

#5) It is a musical. NEMO was not.

#6) Fights to the death? There was one fight, one real one, at the end, between Simba (as an adult) and Scar (Simba's uncle). Simba did not kill Scar, if you actually paid attention to the movie, Simba tells Scar to run away. Scar momentarily leaves, but is still the knieving, schemeing lion that he is, and turns around and lunges at Simba. Simba acts out of self defense, and deflects Scar away from him, which happens to be over a cliff. Scar doesn't die, but is weakened. His 'friends' the hyenas then turn on him for what he said earlier, and they kill him. We see this through shadows, not by the 'actual' animals.

#7) Ok, now then.. I don't know what age your 'youngsters' are, but I know I liked this film when it originally came out on VHS. Of course, I had seen the first hour of the movie 5 times in one day…… I have recently watched it and love it even more than I did before. When I was much younger, way before the VHS came out, I had seen Jungle Book 3 or 4 times, and never loved it. I had no choice but to watch it, either.

A film critic wrote “But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd.” umm.. ok.. I liked that show when it came out.. which was about when TLK came out…

I bet your kids loved Bambi, though… The only story element difference between TLK and Bambi is that is TLK, Simba returns to gain revenge on Scar, AFTER he's there, after he finds out that Scar killed his father, then Simba decides to get revenge.

I despise thick headed people…..
